Merlin's Diet Page

Still under construction!

Welcome to my electronic works attempting to detail my weight loss. Two years ago I started in on a diet called Protein Power, by Dr. Michael Eades, which is closely related to the Atkin's diet which has been around for ages. I've consulted with a doctor or two on the subject, some who are dubious, some who are convinced it's reasonably good, and some who say to watch certain things while on it. So I'm fairly pleased with it so far. Anyway, two years ago I lost 40 pounds, but due to a lack of discipline, I gained it all back and then a little extra. Now I've lost that little extra, and am back where I started. This time, I'm using things like this to help me practice discipline. Things like:

  • Meal planning 1 week in advance, and buying groceries then.
  • Taking my lunch to work with me instead of relying on eating out.
  • Recording my weight every day and using a bit of software to help out
  • A simple, mild, but daily exercise plan
  • A girlfriend who cares about me and is helping in various ways
  • A web log so that I can put up progress data and have some accountability. This assumes anyone reads it, but even if no one does, I'll know that someone might and that alone is enough to make me think twice about cheating (much).

Here are the important links.
  • Low Carb Luxury -- So far my favorite low carb site, the recipes I've tried from there are actually as advertised. Many sites have had recipes that I find mostly inedible. I'm a picky bastard about food, sadly.
  • Lowcarb.com -- Where I currently order some of the low carb items I like. (Like the low carb pasta, which I couldn't find last time I looked)
  • netrition.com -- my newest favorite site to buy from. They have better prices than lowcarb and a better online catalog.
  • The Hacker's Diet or the European mirror-- I use their software and the exercise plan, but not the diet itself. (Though I approve of the concept, I like the low carb plan; for maintenance level I may well switch to the hacker's diet model.)

And these are my own personal links!
  • My Journal -- The running, irregular journal I keep to talk about progress and setbacks.
  • My Chart -- The eatwatch data in a convenient HTML chart for all to see.
  • Recipe -- My recipe database
